Why care at home

Why families choose hospice at home

Emotional

Most people, given the choice, want to be home. In their own bed. In the room they know. Surrounded by the photographs on the walls and the people who matter most.

Medical

Home hospice makes that possible. It brings the full clinical team — nurses, aides, a chaplain, a social worker, a 24/7 nurse line — to your living room instead of asking your family to live at a hospital. The same Medicare benefit, the same care plan, in the place your loved one already feels safe.

Practical

There's a practical side, too. Family can come and go as they need to. Grandchildren can visit without nursing-station hours. The daily rhythm your loved one built over a lifetime — the morning coffee, the afternoon nap, the quiet of their own kitchen — doesn't have to end.

What to Expect in the First 48 Hours

From your first call to your first visit

Hour 0–2 · The call

A real person calls back

You call (248) 264-3704. A Bluebird nurse answers and listens. No script read aloud, no checklist. We ask about what's going on and explain what hospice does and doesn't do. Most first calls take 15 to 30 minutes.

Hour 4–8 · Evaluation visit

A nurse visits in person

A nurse comes to you, usually the same day or the next. We meet your loved one, talk with the family, and confirm whether hospice is the right fit. No commitment at this visit. It's a conversation.

Hour 12-24 · Admission

Admission begins

If hospice is right and the family is ready, we admit. The paperwork takes about an hour. We coordinate with your loved one's existing care team so nothing important gets missed.

Hour 12–24 · Equipment and Medications

Pain plan finalized

Hospital bed, oxygen, medications, and whatever else is needed arrives at your home — usually within hours of admission.

Hour 24–36 · First care visit

Your full care team begins

A nurse visits to begin care, set up the medication routine, and answer the questions that always come up once things are real. From here on, you have us 24/7.
