Family-owned care located in Oxford and serving Michigan families.

We're Matt and Marie Kopmeyer. Bluebird Hospice is our family's company—not a private-equity holding or a branch of a national chain. Because we are locally owned and operated, we do things differently, putting our focus entirely on the people we serve and the incredible team providing that care. When you call us, you reach a dedicated, compassionate local team who knows your loved one, alongside the actual nurses who will be there for you in person.

Our Care

How we care for your family

Care at home — caregiver with patient in living room

Care at Home

Hospice in the place your loved one knows best. Our nurses, aides, chaplains, social workers, and volunteers come to you on a consistent schedule. For everything in between, you have 24/7 access to a nurse—ready to answer your call, give guidance over the phone, or come directly to your home for a visit, day or night.

Care in facilities — caregiver visiting patient in assisted living

Care in Facilities

Hospice care that integrates seamlessly with your loved one's assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing team. Working hand-in-hand with facility staff should be the industry standard, but too often, it falls short. At Bluebird, this is where we excel. Through clear, ongoing communication, we provide a coordinated, extra layer of support. Simply put: we are there to support the team and care for your loved one.

Palliative care — comfort-focused support during serious illness

Palliative Care

Comfort-focused care for serious illness, available alongside ongoing treatments. Too often, families need more help than they're getting, but they either don't qualify for hospice yet or just aren't ready to take that step. We bridge that gap. We provide a dedicated team to call, lean on, and help you navigate the journey well before you are ready for hospice.

Not sure its time to call

The most common thing we hear is, 'We waited too long.' If you are reading this right now wondering what to do next, it is time to have a conversation. Calling doesn't commit you to anything. It simply connects you directly to a Bluebird nurse, available 24/7, so you can ask your questions and get the information you need.

Is It Time for Hospice?
More trips to the hospital this year than last
Pain that isn't being managed well at home
Less appetite, more sleep, slower days
A doctor has mentioned "comfort care" or "the next step"
Desiring care in the home setting and not return to the hospital
Navigating your loved one's care is a heavy responsibility. If you are looking for guidance, answers, and a team to help share the load, we are here for you

Our story

Local, family-owned company. Not a large corporation.

Hospice has been consolidating for a decade. Most of the names you'll see on Google searches in Michigan now belong to national chains backed by investors who've never met a patient.

Not all hospice companies are the same. We built Bluebird the better way. Instead of focusing on profits and quotas, our focus is completely on your loved one. We hire dedicated nurses who plan to stay. Because we love this community and are deeply invested in the people here, we treat your family like our own. If you need anything, you speak directly to us—your neighbors—not a corporate office in another state.

"We started Bluebird because we wanted to provide the level of quality care hospice services that we would expect for our own family. That's still the only standard."
Matt and Marie Kopmeyer

There are simply not enough words to express our gratitude for Bluebird Hospice.

For the final three months of my Meemaw's life, the Bluebird team cared for her with incredible kindness, compassion, and dignity. Because of them she was able to remain in the comfort of her own home for as long as possible. When she later moved into a senior living home, they continued to care for her there until the very end.

A special thank you to Melissa who became so much more than a caregiver. She was my Meemaw's favorite and it was obvious the feeling was mutual. We will never forget the tenderness, patience, and love Melissa showed her every single visit.

Every member of the Bluebird team treated my Meemaw with dignity and treated our family with kindness. They are true angels, and knowing she was surrounded by people who cared so deeply brought us tremendous comfort.

Thank you for helping my Meemaw spend her final months with comfort, dignity, and so much love. We are forever grateful.

Bluebird Hospice, Deanie and her team of nurses were the most amazing people I’ve ever met! Thankful we got to talk with Deanie and get my Mom into Hospice a the right time. My Mom was a sassy person, she didn’t LIKE ANYONE, but she LOVED Deanie from the beginning! Deanie was kind and patient with my Mom and she moved a huge mountain in a short time and got my Mom signed into Hospice just in time! The time that BlueBird spent with her and my Dad was simply amazing. I’m so grateful for the love and care they gave to us in my Mom’s final days, hours, minutes! I’ll always hold this Team in my heart! Losing a Mom is something that hurts in a way I wasn’t prepared for, and the LOVE and Support they gave me and my dad was a pure gift! Thank you!

Words cannot express how grateful and thankful I am for the people at Bluebird Hospice! They have helped us through the process of moving our mother from independent living into assisted living into end of life diagnosis with ease, grace and comfort that no other company has come close to! This family owner business is more than just a business; it’s genuine love, care and compassion for your loved ones. Highly recommended and I wished there were more nationwide!

I am the owner of New Heights Assisted Living in Clarkston. We are a 6 bed AFC for the elderly. This past year we started working with Bluebird Hospice and with their addition to our home it has been a HUGE asset to our quality care and overall resident, family and staff satisfaction. Bluebird is an intimate company comprised of a small group of tight knit women who have spent decades in the Hospice field. We call them the “OG’s”, original gangsters 😂, because they’re a group of seniored saint nurses who are just very good at what they do. Deanee, the Executive Director, comes frequently and bathes our seniors, she has been found many times washing our dishes if she sees them in the sink, and on the drop of a hat is there to make sure any new patient of there’s is fully established and has everything they need. The quality is shown even down to the more costly brand products they order for our seniors. I cannot give higher accolades to this company and hope to work with them for a very long time.

The level of care, both for the patient and their loved ones, is truly outstanding. It's clear that they prioritize not only the well-being of their patients but also the emotional needs of their families. Highly recommend to anyone in need of hospice care.

As a social worker with 13 years of hospice experience, I have high standards and expectations when it comes to patient care. Bluebird Hospice consistently goes above and beyond to ensure their patients, families and caregivers receive the highest level of support. Their strengths lie in their compassionate approach, clear communication, diligent follow-up, and exceptional teamwork. While there are many hospice providers, few meet the level of excellence that I would confidently recommend. Bluebird Hospice is one of them.
